We are excited to announce that His Majesty King Charles III’s 50p coin featuring the Atlantic Salmon has been officially crowned as the rarest 50p in active circulation.
Just 200,000 pieces featuring the new design were released to UK banks and post offices at the end of last year.
Few coins capture the public’s imagination quite like the humble 50p coin with its instantly recognisable shape, and a select few have become some of the rarest 50p coins ever struck by The Royal Mint.
The Royal Mint first unveiled the Atlantic salmon coin design in October 2023 as part of a suite of eight new designs set to appear on the coins of the nation.
Introduced on the United Kingdom’s definitive coins, the designs highlight His Majesty King Charles III’s passion for conservation and the natural world.
Collectors predicted a low mintage for the 2023 Atlantic Salmon 50p coin, and we can confirm it is even rarer than the beloved 2009 Kew Gardens 50p coin.
